Shuron are still going today - since 1865! - but this frame
made around 100 years later. The
Ronsir Shurtone was first
made in 1959 in a two-tone effect formed by "double
anodizing" - as they explained, "...bright and satin toned
finishes separated and emphasized by a narrow ribbon of
hand engraving..." - amazing to think that they were mass
producing hand-engraved frames, that certainly doesn't
happen anymore. This pair made later in the 1960s though
when the gold contact was halved, but saying that, there
is still 100 times more gold in this frame than in a modern
gold-plated frame - so they will never corrode. Which is
why it looks so good today. Savile Row is a company still
making 12kgf frames and they start from about £400.
So this 60+ year old frame is a bargain by comparison.
Slightly different too to the earlier Shurtone, this finish is
rough, like they were trying to emulate stone. This is only
a medium sized frame, so
check size before you buy.
