info
Although not marked as such, this Marwitz frame appears in
a Degenhardt catalogue from 1968. Degenhardt & Co - based
in London's West End - imported the best quality frames from
Europe for sale here in the UK. 'Marwitz & Hauser' were from
Stuttgart and started in 1918. It was one of a handful of high-
end German makers of eyewear and became famous for superlative
quality. A 1960s rolled-gold Marwitz frame of this kind underwent
up to 420 separate operations in production and therefore was
expensive to buy, when then also imported from Germany. This
pair is
the R16 in their Dark Sepia - the plastic hoods and matching
temple tips a very dark brown - measures up as 49[]21 but was
probably sold as their 48[]20, so not a large frame.
