  • This is the classic NHS shape from the 1960's. It was made

in the London Mantor factory owned by Michael Wiseman who

had been making NHS frames since their inception in 1948.

This pair is unusual in that it is fitted with cable arms that

wrap around the ear, so possibly to be used for workwear.

Wiseman's metal factory was the Algha Works in Hackney

Wick - still exists today under new ownership - and this is

no doubt where the arms were manufactured. This NHS

shape - called model 524 - underwent changes over the

years but this is one of the later, squarer shapes, so probably

late-1960's. It is in great condition, so perhaps not much

work done wearing them. Large size, but could fit men or

    women.
