Although Anglo-American are still going - since 1881
- this pair made a little over a century later when
they were in their heyday. You can read all about
Anglo American on their website as they have included
a very comprehensive history page. In the 1980s -
when this pair was made - their designer Lawrence
often looked to make exaggerated versions of frames
from the 1950s and 60s to befit the 80s fashions and
this pair is typical of that. It is an enlarged upswept
cat-eye (they were never this big as in the 50s and 60s
frames tended to frame the eyes rather than the face)
and made in animal print acetate. This pair would be
nigh on impossible to make today as very few companies
have the resources to have this sheet of acetate made
in order to cut hundreds of frames. Anglo were a huge
company in the 80s and their turnover must have been
enormous as they had the budget to make frames like this.
Normally Lawrence named his frames after iconic American
cities or states, so we're a bit disappointed that he only
managed MOD 215 for this fabulous frame. He should have
opted for Hollywood or Bel Air for this pair. We found it in
new condition, never having been worn.
