info
Helmecke were established by
Gerhard Helmecke in 1947,
based in northern West Germany, near the Danish border. He
built a
state of the art factory and was incredibly successful,
starting out simply making frame temples and then moving
into
design and manufacture of their own
frames and sunglasses.
This is Jane: we know this as it appears in a
catalogue we
have from 1968. It was introduced the year before and came
in two sizes and eight colours, this is their Green. It was
part of a range that Helmecke that appealed to "younger folk
of both sexes" so brought out frames in bright colours to
encourage purchasing extra pairs of glasses. This pair though
definitely aimed at women by naming it Jane. It is a crystal
frame with a thin layer of green on both sides, pinned front
and sides, with straight temples with serrated ends. We've
also previously had it in the Autumn Leaf colour.
