info
Although in the 1950's American Optical didn't stamp the
name on the frame, we know this is Prelude as it appears in
their catalogue for 1958, when it was new that year. It was
described thus, "Dramatically modern...Beauty and fashion
appeal...Modestly upswept eyeshape...Two-tone treatment."
This was a new shape for eyewear in that it wasn't as upswept,
it was a slightly flatter, wider shape - a sign of things to come,
hence "modestly".
Ours is the Pearl Onyx colourway, the pearly
grey layer extending down the arms. Looks hardly worn, in new
condition.
