Cazal Creations never specified if a design was for a man
or woman; perhaps because many of the styles were worn
by both.
Especially the young in the early to mid-1980's in
the US where Cazals or "Cazzies" were a craze, even among
teenagers. Jamel Shabazz's photo from his book "Back in The
Days", shows how 'unisex' these Cazal status symbols were -
the frame on the left though, like this one, seems more a
woman's frame. Perhaps it's the arched and upswept tops of
the frames. This one is from the 100 Series which came out a
little later and we are pleased to say is unworn. It even has its
original Cazal demo blanks, which shows how effective the 168
would be as glasses. The white on clear acetate frame becomes
a neutral backdrop for that silhouette of applied lines of brightest
red and the ornament of those triangles of gold metal and jade
enamel at the corners. Imagine a red lipstick to match. Of course
you could put in sunglass lenses or just keep in the blanks. It is all
up to you, being the very first to own and wear this original 80's
Cazal.
