info

Helmecke were established by Gerhard Helmecke in 1947,

based in northern West Germany, near the Danish border. He

built a state of the art factory and was incredibly successful,

starting out simply making frame temples and then moving

into design and manufacture of their own frames and sunglasses.

This pair is called Philip and we know this as it appears in

a catalogue we have from 1968. It was made as an optical frame

but as was common, it has been made into sunglasses proably at

the time of purchase as it has been fitted with Carl Zeiss Umbral

mineral glass lenses (the darker 85% absorbtion) - the lens Helmecke

always preferred in their sunglasses. So you're getting a high end

optical frame with the best lenses available at the time - can't

go wrong with that.
