info
All collectors of sunglasses know Oliver Goldsmith and his
pioneering designs of the 1960's. That 'Oliver' - Andrew - is
still in business and perhaps he might like to get in contact
to give us some information on this pair: he hasn't been shy
in the past when we've got something wrong. Mostly the pairs
he designed for retail were named: Rip, Zak, Goo Goo are
few we've had before. But Andrew - who designed this pair
- hasn't named it. Perhaps it was from his personal collection,
or for a client. Whatever, in our opinion it is right up there
with the very best of his designs from this period, which looks
to be the late 1960s or perhaps edging into the 70's when a
clean front bereft of pins or plaques was the fashion. The size
and the angles and the facets are all brilliant and this pair
exemplifies why he has been the best British eyewear
designer of all time.
