  • Algha marked on this frame refers to the Algha Optical Works,

not far from us here in east London. It was opened in 1932

when Max Wiseman decided to begin gold-fill frame making

here in the UK for the first time. The making of these frames

was a highly prized trade secret so the solution was to go to

Rathenow in Germany and purchase the whole factory and

bring it over here, together with the technicians required to

run it. Algha changed in the 80's with the ceasing of NHS

frame making and became the high end brand, Savile Row,

still making frames in the same 1932 factory in Hackney.

This pair was made in the 1960s in 1/20 12k gold fill. It is

one of their larger frames so we have decided to turn it into

a cool pair of shades with the Klasik G15 mineral glass sun
