info
The
Persol brand was created in the 1920s in Turin
Giuseppe Ratti who had been an optician in the
family buisness and was experimenting with tinted
lenses. This pair, the 009, was first made more than
50 years ago for...NASA. It was called the 4 lens model
and we're guessing astronauts liked it due to the extra
protection afforded by the side shields, these in the
original Persol glass. This pair made in the 90s in
Italy and has the familiar meflecto arms - a unique
spring action hugging the sunglasses to your head -
for when you are experiencing g-force, no doubt. We
found it with prescription sun lenses which we changed
to Polaroid brand lenses in (almost) the same tint as
the original side shields. Persol was bought out by
Luxottica in the 1990s and they have started making
the 009 again, although we haven't handled one so we
can't offer a comparison. They have also turned what
was a famous sunglasses brand (For Sun) into an
optical brand, which doesn't make sense really. But
they did the same to Ray-Ban, similarly conflicting
with the original name.
