info

Hard to believe when you look at sunglasses today, but

branding used to be very subtle. We guess that it was

thought of as gauche to do anything more. We really

had to search to find the Ray-Ban impression on this

frame: on top of the bridge - and once we found that,

we could scour our collection of catalogues to try and

date it, afterall this is the first Ray-Ban of this type we've

had before. And it turned up, in this copy of a catalogue

we have from 1949. It was called Fun Glass (geddit?) and

came in numerous colourways, ours is Green Varicoloured

we assume. Interestingly it has the familiar lozenge plaques

- later to become iconic on the Wayfarer - front and sides

and although the front is a typical shape for a 1940s sun-

glass - the sides are wide and taper wider to the ends in

a sinuous design to give it the feminine touch. As we say,

the only one we've found so extremely rare, especially

considering the rrp was $7.50!.
