info
This early vintage Ray-Ban shows off B&L's
superlative craftsmanship. Not only did they
make the best lenses in the world, they put
them in frames like this one. The green and
white layered plastic - the colour at the time
was called Greenglo - has been carved into
sloping arcs across the brow and then cut
away at an angle at the sides. The effect is
like the frills of a petticoat. Unusually, the
Zanzibar was always paired with plain black
temples, perhaps not wanting to compete
with the front. It was launched in 1956 as this
was when it first
appeared in an ad, alongside
the men's Signet - see above - so this is almost
their 70th anniversary.....His and Hers for Xmas?
