GOGGLES were launched in the late 1970's by the
British designer, Oliver Goldsmith. Check out one of
their - David Bailey directed -
tv ads on You Tube.
The Goggles diffuse line by Goldsmith went on into
the 1980's, launched with the tag: 'Fine lenses in
fabulous fashion frames'. As these are fine gradient,
mirrored glass lenses, this pair looks to be an early
one, as glass lenses were later phased out. Goggles
were an accessible part of a rejuvenated British
fashion scene as European manufacture and trade
opened up after we joined the EU in 1973. Sad that
Brexit will be an end to this, but revel in this glamorous
accessory, a legacy from that incredible creative period.
