info
Optical Products Ltd used to be in East London and were
mainly known for making good quality optical frames,
particularly NHS frames after 1948. Here before the war,
they went fashion-forward with sunglasses which although
quite delicate, have managed to survive until now. OPL
specialised in plastics and it's nice to see an early example
of a moulded plastic design in sunglasses. This gives it a
futuristic, 'moderne' look and the colour being a translucent
pink lets the large, dark, flat lenses take centre stage. The
brows are high and arched, the bridge quite wide and the
arms long. They would fit larger faces and heads - and men
too. The glass lenses are in excellent condition - just don't
wear these all day in the bright sunshine as they don't offer
the full uv protection that is required these days. But let's
face it, these are more about style and drama in a fashion
accessory.
